Project Intro
This Cosmopolitan Netherlands cover story was shot in Amsterdam. The intention behind this lighting setup is a classic, high impact cover look: clean, flattering and polished. The light is designed to render skin, facial features and styling with clarity and evenness, while keeping enough punch and separation for the subject to stand out instantly on the page. The result is a bright, refined image with controlled contrast and a crisp, editorial finish that holds up beautifully for cover typography and close cropping.

STEP 1
- Build two “trees” on set: stack two Profoto ProHeads on each side, each fitted with a Profoto Umbrella Shallow White M, mounted via C stands as shown in the 3D render.
- Add black floppy flags in front of each tree to control spill and keep the light off areas you do not want to lift.
- Set all four heads to power 5.0 as a starting point, then fine tune output to match your distance, exposure and desired contrast.

STEP 2
- Set your key light: a Profoto Deep White Umbrella M, positioned roughly halfway between you and the model, centered on axis, with a subtle downward tilt of about 15 degrees.
- Important: rig this on a super boom arm (unlike the 3D render) so you can bring the light in cleanly without a stand blocking your position.
- Start at around power 6.0, then dial in based on distance, ambient, and the contrast you are aiming for.
- Lift the shadows with a Profoto 2x3 Softbox with grid placed just behind you, angled toward the model at roughly head height. Start at power 3.0 and fine tune as needed.

STEP 3
- Place two black floppy flags close to the model on both sides, just out of frame, to eat spill and tighten contrast along the edges.
- Camera settings: 1/160 s, f/8, ISO 160.
