China Silk
A lightweight, finely woven silk fabric available in white or black versions, traditionally used on frames for light control.
Why it’s used: The white version diffuses light to create a soft, flattering effect, while the black version subtly reduces light without changing its quality — both offering a smooth, natural look for high-end shoots.

Shiny Mirror Board
A rigid, highly reflective board with a mirror-like surface, used to bounce strong, focused light. Often made from acrylic or metal for durability.
Why it’s used: Redirects light with maximum intensity for sharp highlights, dramatic effects, or to simulate direct sunlight in controlled studio or location setups.

Project Intro
The goal was to build a playful outdoor light that echoes the vibrant make-up. Through light-spots, selected areas of the face were emphasized, balancing boldness with refinement.

STEP 1
- Rig a 12×12 frame with “Silk ¼” between the sun and model to soften skin while keeping that golden glow.
- Have an assistant hold a shiny mirror board opposite the model to bounce playful light leaks onto her skin—tweak its angle until the leaks land just right.
- Embrace the creative process; it takes time to nail the perfect leak, but it’s fun!

STEP 2
- Camera settings: 1/1250 s, ƒ/8, ISO 160 (ideal at sunrise or sunset).
- Note: the light here in the 3D render is a placeholder for the real sunlight.
