Project Intro
Let’s break this setup down step by step. Here, our aim is to build depth and atmosphere by playing off the layers in the set design—placing a single wall behind the product to emphasize the corner and add dimensionality. You can apply this lighting approach to virtually any set when you want to create a stronger sense of space.
STEP 1
  • Light 1:
  • ·       Mount a Profoto ProHead with Zoom Reflector behind the set-build wall to spill subtle light into the corner.
  • ·       Start at Power 5.0 and tweak as needed.
  • Light 2:
  • ·       Then add the first of two Profoto ProHeads with Snoot on the right side, aiming at the green set-build wall for a smooth light fall-off.
  • ·       Start at Power 5.0 and adjust to taste.
  • Light 3:
  • ·       Place another Profoto ProHead with Snoot on the left side, pointing at the left wall for an extra accent and depth within the environment.
  • ·       Start at Power 5.0 and fine-tune as you like.
STEP 2
  • Mount the Briese Focus 140 on a Profoto ProHead to camera-right, aimed at the product for glossy, high-contrast highlights.
  • Fit a grid to the Briese and flag off spill with black polyboards or floppy-flags so none of the light hits the background—this preserves your previously introduced Snoot effects on the set-build wall.
  • Start at Power 7.0 and fine-tune to taste.
  • On the Briese’s left, add a Profoto 5″ Octa RFI to wrap light back around the subject. Start at Power 3.0 and adjust as needed.
STEP 3
  • Mount a Profoto ProHead with Zoom Reflector on the left side of your set and aim it straight up at the ceiling to serve as a base light and gently lift shadows.
  • Placement and angle will vary based on your space—move it until the fill feels even.
  • Start at Power 3.0 and tweak to taste.
STEP 4
  • Surround the product with various sizes of white polyboards or flexible whiteboards to cast large, even reflections that give a wonderful contrast, luxurious feel and even out the product.
  • Experiment with board placement to perfect the highlights.
  • Camera Settings: 1/160 s, f/13, ISO 125.
